Hong Kong NewsBot: Overview

Introduction
Hong Kong NewsBot is a full-text news retrieval system that provides various search features for retrieving the news items distributed by major Hong Kong newspaper publishers and news agencies. Developed by stages, the database covers data far back to January 1, 1995. (Please click "Coverage" for a detailed description)
Starting from January 1, 2000, Hong Kong NewsBot subscribes to the news data supplied by WISERS Information Ltd. and hence, the database allows searching 2 different sets of news data, namely,
- for searching news items published within the most recent 7 days, i.e., searching "Today" and "Last 7 days", users will be directed to the newspapers' internet editions through the hyperlinks provided (Robot downloading the internet articles to database from 12:00noon to 12:10pm every day). Five internet editions are presently available covering most of the sections except Sports, Entertainment and miscellaneous items. The 5 internet editions are:
- Apple Daily
- Ming Pao
- Sing Tao Daily

- for searching archives going back beyond 7 days to January 1, 2000, i.e., searching "Last 30 days" and "Self-input" if the self-input dates go beyond 7 days, news data supplied by WISERS Information Ltd. are provided. The news items cover most of the sections including Sports, Entertainment and miscellaneous items of the following newspapers and news agency in Hong Kong:

- Hong Kong Commercial Daily
- Hong Kong Daily News
- Hong Kong Economic Times
- Ming Pao
- Sing Pao

- As a result of copyright restriction, news data from January 1, 2001 onwards is no longer available in Hong Kong NewsBot.
